Guam - The community is stepping up to the plate this holiday season to bring cheer to children in need of toys. Miss World Guam Cameron Mendiola paid an unexpected visit to the Salvation Army to continue with her "Beauty with A Purpose" mission. "I decided to give back to the community and the little children of Guam and to donate toys and I had a toy drive yesterday at the Latte of Freedom and it was just a merienda and I asked people to donate and come and celebrate and donate toys for the children of Guam," she explained.
The Salvation Army also received a generous donation from the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots campaign delivering over 2,000 toys. Salvation Army Captain Mike Lutcher told KUAM News, "Even though if its toys for tots or we have a surprise like Cameron stopping by delivering her toys we just appreciate what everyone is doing to make to bring joy to the children's lives."
Captain Lutcher says toy distribution have been pushed back to accommodate the toy donations being received. Parents that have signed up to receive toys for their children will be able to start picking them up on December 19th and the 23rd.
