Guam - Starting Tuesday, General Services Agency along with the Department of Education will conduct school visits islandwide to gauge their security and surveillance needs.

According to Department of Education superintendent Jon Fernandez, this is part of the Secure Our Schools Act passed earlier this year.

The law provides $1.28 million in funds for security systems for DOE schools up to seven years.

As we've been reporting, last school year alone a total of 42 breakins were reported at DOE schools with damages close to $340,000.

Fernandez says school visits will allow GSA as well as school principals to make recommendations on what type of security equipment to procure.
