Guam - Several senators have introduced a resolution aimed at promoting an affordable alternative to regional transportation between Guam and the CNMI by means of a ferry between Guam and Rota.  Resolution 279 was introduced by Senators Tina Muna Barnes, Rory Respicio and Speaker Judi Won Pat and appears to have the support of CNMI speaker Joseph Deleon Guerrero.

"This is something I've been thinking about over the years, how we can improve that and reduce the cost, and if we can find an effective way of doing this through cooperation, then I think the Mariana islands would be a better place to live especially for our people in Rota and Tinian," he said.

He adds interisland transportation is very costly and hopes to work with Guam senators to either promote competition or subsidize a private ferry. The resolution further aims to promote trade, expand the tourism market and help farmers provide produce to both markets.
