Guam - There's big news for parents and students at Simon Sanchez High School, as it looks like they'll have an extended Thanksgiving Break.

Despite plans to re-open the Yigo school on Friday, the Department of Education announces they'll remain closed through the week to allow DOE to complete necessary repairs before an official inspection.

DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez says although he anticipates opening doors as early as Monday, December 2, that will depend on the progress made over the weekend.

An assessment of the school was conducted earlier this month. Although the island's regulatory agencies deemed the building "structurally sound," they did note deficiencies throughout the campus, which DOE has been addressing since. We should note, the school's continued closure will postpone their official inspection date.

According to education advisor Vince Leon Guerrero, this pushes the official inspection to Monday, December 2, as well.
