Guam - The Democratic Party of Guam announces the results of its island-wide party elections. The state party officers elected were Senator Rory Respicio as chair, Dr. Nerissa B. Underwood as vice chair, John Paul Manuel as secretary and Coy Torres as treasurer. All four were running unopposed. A total of 40 district representatives were elected for the respective 20 districts.
According to a release from nominating committee chaired by Speaker Judi Won Pat, over one thousand Democrats turned out for Saturday's vote— a turned Won Pat says was exceeded expectations given that all the candidates were running unopposed. The committee notes the previous island wide party elections had received only 400 votes.
"This is a great day for the Democratic Party and for all those who believe that our island needs a strong voice for the grassroots and working families," Sen. Respicio says.
"I want to thank everyone who came out to vote. This turnout is a reflection of the new energy our party is generating. I am greatly encouraged by the support this new team has received," Dr. Underwood says.
