Typhoon Sinlaku continues to intensify as it slowly moves toward the Marianas, raising serious concerns for Guam and the CNMI.

As of 7 p.m. from an NWS public advisory on Saturday, Sinlaku has strengthened to a Category 1 typhoon with sustained winds of 90 mph. The system is moving northwest at just 5 mph—allowing more time to strengthen over open waters.

Forecast models now indicate the potential for a powerful Category 4 typhoon, with winds reaching up to 140 mph at the time of closest approach to Guam. The latest track shows a slight shift north, but officials stress that changes remain possible over the next several days.

Meanwhile, islands across Chuuk State are already experiencing dangerous conditions, with tropical storm to typhoon-force winds continuing to impact communities.

Residents on Guam and throughout the CNMI are urged to prepare now, secure homes and supplies, and stay updated through official sources.
