Guam - After weeks of getting comments from community members on her Resolution 201, Senator Tina Muna Barnes is close to completing the committee report for the resolution that supports the idea of decriminalizing cannabis on Guam. According to Senator Barnes's office, close to 500 comments were submitted on the topic of marijuana from e-mail messages, Facebook posts and telephone calls.

Of the 500, her office estimates about 95% were in favor of legalizing marijuana for medicinal use with about 75% of that count in favor of complete legalization for recreational use as well. About 5% of the total comments were against any form of legalization on island. And as Barnes had mentioned before, actual legislation would be dependent on the completion of the committee report first.

Her office further states that legislation is already drafted and will most likely steer toward the legalization of marijuana for medicinal use only based on the comments.

The committee report is expected to be completed soon.
