GUAM - In the village of Barrigada, Mayor June Blas says the heavy rainfall caused so many areas to flood that she actually had to evacuate several families from their homes.

She says about three families were given assistance from the mayor's office with a handful of other families seeking shelter from other family members.

"Flooding has always been an issue for Barrigada. The center part of the village has actually flooded out, we do have some residents who were evacuated because of this heavy amount of rain that down poured and we had to get them into proper housing" the mayor quipped.

Several homes were submerged in water including houses behind Besta Market and Ungaguan street. She further thanks the Barrigada fire station and the Guam housing Corporation for their assistance in providing equipment and housing for residents. She says flooding has been a major concern for years as proper drainage is needed throughout the village.
