Ten very dedicated, young police officers who really want to put their heart and soul into the police department.

Chief Stephen Ignacio of the Guam Police Department on the men and women who make up the 16th cycle during the police officer trainee swearing in ceremony.

On Wednesday they did their oath of office and were sworn in.

As GPD Chief Stephen Ignacio has said in the past, “What seems like a short and simple event holds a lot of significance. Their oath today transforms you into a police officer with the Guam Police Department. When you leave the ceremony you will carry the same powers and all the same responsibilities as a Guam Police Department officer.”

The oath is their commitment to serve with impartiality and integrity. and is the foundation of what makes a good police officer.

“We see the worst but as police officers we have to look beyond that to realize the person you are dealing with. They just need a helping hand. Or someone willing to hear them out,” said Ignacio.

After six months of classes and several weeks of practical training and exercises the officers have all demonstrated to move on to the job training phase.

“You have my greatest respect and admiration. For rising to that level and our people of Guam, appreciate the police officers, they do respect you as police officers,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero.
