From open conversations to real tools for healing, Guam’s youth took center stage at the Pacific Minds Conference 2026, where mental health wasn’t just discussed, it was experienced.

Held Saturday at the Guam Legislature, the Teen Mental Wellness Conference brought together experts and community leaders, all focused on empowering young people with the support they need.

Clinical Psychologist Dr. Alan Butler, Psychiatrist Dr. Danny McClure of Todu Guam, Pathways to Healing CEO Lani Carillo, and UOG Assistant Professor Dr. Camarin Meno led sessions designed to connect, not just inform.

Event Creator Mariana Castro says that connection made all the difference.

“I think they really enjoyed the conversations they were able to have with the presenters and speakers. They said it was very engaging and they learned a lot about mental health,” said Castro

Organizers say what set this conference apart was its hands-on approach, turning serious topics into real, relatable experiences.

“There's a lot of lectures but they're really interactive..like Ms. Lani Carillo… and so is Dr. Meno…It’s a great way to learn how to deal with their mental health and their stresses, but it’s also interactive,” said Akeyla Tolentino, one of the organizers.

From mindfulness activities to personal stories of healing, students were able to see themselves in the conversation.

“They really enjoyed Ms. Lani Carillo’s ‘Pathways to Healing,’ and Mr. Meno did an activity on mindfulness,” said Castro.

But beyond the workshops, this was about building community.

“We’re so excited…We saw so many of our friends come out and even those we don’t know…We love that it was a community collective…With youth from different schools,” said another organizer, Tianna Jo Magday.

Organizers say events like this aren’t about filling a gap, but making sure young people know help is already here.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what everyone learns…and I have high hopes for the energy brought by our attendees,” said Nina Quitugua, organizer.

And with a strong turnout and positive feedback, Castro says the impact was clear.

A space where Guam’s youth were not only heard, but empowered to take charge of their mental wellness with hope and with support.
