Guam - At the Asan Memorial Park this morning another memorial ceremony was held to commemorate the island's liberation.
The park sits on hallowed ground. It is the location where the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force landed to begin liberating the island from Japanese imperial forces during World War II.
U.S. Marine Corps retired colonel Joaquin Santos, Jr. delivered the key note address this morning.
"The stories of courage and faith of the Chamorro people during world war two are painful we pay tribute today the Chamorro who perished during World War II, especially the ones at the Tinta and Faha caves in Malesso and those killed from Asan attempting to escape to Yigo. We praise those who survive the war and express our gratitude to the thousands of U.S. servicemen who participated in the Marianas campaign. We are eternally grateful to the men who paid the ultimate sacrifice July 21st 1944 on this island," he said.
