Guam - The Guam Election Commission is meeting this evening where commissioners are set to discuss its upcoming budgeting hearing.

GEC executive director Maria Pangelinan says the GEC's budget request is for $1.1 million which does not include the request for new election equipment. She hopes to be transparent with the Guam Legislature especially as its budget request includes appropriations for next year's primary election in august 2014.

She said, "So even numbered fiscal years fund general elections so if the law mandates that the Guam Election Commission submit a detailed budget to the Legislature the law also mandates that the Legislature provides funding through general appropriation for the election."

The GEC's budget hearing is set for July 29 at 11 in the morning. The GEC meanwhile will also discuss updates to the Guam Administrative Rules and Regulation along an assessment from Election Systems & Software on the GEC's old tabulation machines.
