From culture to compassion in action, lawmakers also honored Guam Animals In Need, or GAIN, and the SNIP clinic for their work protecting the island’s most vulnerable animals.

GAIN was recognized for providing shelter, care, and second chances, while also educating the community on responsible pet ownership.

“GAIN has long been more than a shelter. It is a place of care, of second chances, and of quiet everyday compassion. Through their commitment to providing sanctuary for animals, they remind us that how we treat the most vulnerable among us reflects the values we choose to uphold,” said Senator Shelly Calvo.

Also highlighted, the SNIP clinic, Guam’s first large-scale spay and neuter program.

In just four years they have treated more than 10,000 animals, creating a more sustainable approach to animal population control and management, reducing animal suffering, preventing over-population, and improving the overall well-being of our community.

But organizers say none of it happens without community support.

“As much as GAIN and SNIP exist and we do our work, it involves the community as well. And the fact that….take care of that,” added Mariana Turner, GAIN Veterinarian.

So whether it’s keeping our language alive or giving animals a second chance, these honorees show what’s possible when a community leads with heart.
