Guam - More than 100 Government of Guam employees along with private lawyers participated in the first in a series of workshops under the Governor's Symposium on Workforce Development. Procurement Advisory Council chairman John Unpingco says today's workshop focused not only on knowledge of procurement in the various government departments but several legal aspects as well.

"In our town hall meeting on procurement, we found that most of the participants felt there wasn't enough training around, so this is a start of giving them that training. And the aim of the training is to improve the procurement so these large procurements won't be bugged down with protests," he said.

The series is in conjunction with the Governor's Office, Agency for Human Resources Development and the Department of Administration. More series will be held later this month focusing on accounting, human resources and budgeting. Today's workshop on procurement meanwhile continues tomorrow at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort.
