Oversight on GEDA QC program postponed
An oversight hearing on the qualifying certificate program originally set for tomorrow has been postponed.
Guam - An oversight hearing on the qualifying certificate program originally set for tomorrow has been postponed. Committee chair Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. says following receipt of information on the program from the Guam Economic Development Authority, he wants more time to review it along with having GEDA expand on additional information.
He says the hearing aimed at providing an analysis of the program. "We wanted to see who are the beneficiaries, what industries are taken advantage of the QC and what kind of impact is it having in our community, both positive and negative because with the Qualifying Certificate there's tax breaks that are being provided so we want to see what that is doing to the overall operations of our community and trying to weight out whether the pros and cons of it," he said.
Rodriguez adds this is the first time his committee has held an oversight with GEDA. A new date for the hearing has yet to be set.
