Guam - It was on Friday when Henry Taitano failed to receive enough votes to be confirmed as the new administrator for the Guam Economic Development Authority. The confirmation failed with one vote shy as his confirmation raised concern with Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz over whether Taitano had been truthful over prior business ventures specifically involvement with LLCs and LLPs.

Governor Eddie Calvo today says he's disappointed and believes there were some political undertones at play, noting, "This man owned with his college buddies a bar restaurant a decade ago and he is separated the ties that they're closed and some document that supposedly was sent to his mom's address is the whole basis for tearing down his nomination? I go back to the splinter in a person's eyes and being pull out by folks who have logs in theirs."

Calvo says he plans to re-nominate Taitano again. The vote was split 7-5 with two excused absences. Calvo believes once the Guam Legislature meets with all members present, Taitano will receive the 8 votes needed. He also hopes that the five that voted against Taitano will reconsider.

Taitano meanwhile confirms he did meet with the Governor's Office today saying the governor would be submitting his nomination packet to the legislature sometime this week. Taitano adds he is acting as the governor's economic advisor for now whereas GEDA will be overseen by the current deputy administrator until his confirmation.
