Guam - Guam native Petty Officer 1st Class Benny Flores was awarded the Silver Star for his actions while serving in Southwest Afghanistan last year. Despite his own serious injuries from an enemy attack, Flores provided lifesaving medical care to Marines and Afghan Uniform Police.
He said, "That was my job, my job was to take care of the Marines and support them and I will be happy to go on any other mission for our Marines and for our brothers in arms."
At the time Flores was serving as a field medical technician. The awards ceremony was held at Camp Pendleton in California. The Silver Star is the third highest military decoration for valor.
