Groundbreaking held for Okkodo High expansion

Guam - 68,000 feet. That's enough room to add a new culinary teaching facility, 24 standard classrooms, 4 sped classrooms, 1 drama lab, 1 electronics lab, 7 science labs, additional shower and locker room facilities, and an athletic field house with restrooms. But most importantly, increase student capacity at Okkodo High School from 1,200 to 2,000.
At today's groundbreaking ceremony, DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez told KUAM News the expansion project would add some much needed relief for northern students. "Right now we understand that with the Okkodo expansion we'll address some of our population issues in the north but not everything. We still have an issue with George Washington, which peaks at 2,700 students at the beginning of the year as it did this year."
Bank of Guam played a major role in financing the $21.8 million project to be paid over the next 17 years through a lease agreement with the Guam Educational Finance Foundation.
