Guam - Today members from the U.S. Government Accountability Office continue to meet with government officials while on island and met with members of the Guam Legislature this morning. Speaker Judi Won Pat says she along with Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz and Senator Rory Respicio met with the GAO focusing on general external and internal challenges Guam faces in preparing for the military realignment on Guam.
She said, "What we basically had asked and encouraged them to do is that we asked is that we need to continue this conversation with the federal government and with GovGuam similar dialogue that we had this morning. Primarily because we really need some assurances from the federal government and looking at new approaches to increase the collaboration."
Won Pat made several suggestions such as the need for high-level officials from the White House to steer the buildup requirements along with a congressional hearing focusing strictly on the realignment on Guam. The GAO meanwhile also met with Senators Frank Aguon, Jr. and Tom Ada separately.
