Guam - Press Release: – In recognizing the need to update the existing statute pertaining to the Barbering and Cosmetology industry, Senator Muna Barnes along with Senator Dennis Rodriguez have introduced Bill No. 90-32 (COR) amending certain Sections of Public Law 30-152, also known as the Barbering and Cosmetology Act of 2010.

"In speaking with, as well as receiving numerous calls from practitioners in the industry, I felt that as a representative of the people, as well as the author of P.L. 30-152, that it was my duty and responsibility to review the existing statute and make amendments (where necessary) to update the mandate and bring it up to par with the industry standards" said Senator Muna Barnes.

Muna Barnes continued, "this bill is designed to provide further clarification to existing provisions of the current law, as well as address specific areas in the Barbering and Cosmetology industry that would provide guidance to the Board of Cosmetology and the Division of Environmental Health relative to the administering of examinations, the issuance of licenses/permits and health certificates."

"The bottom line is that this legislation was introduced to ensure that with all the processes that are required for industry professionals to undertake in order to operate in their profession, the ultimate goal is to ensure compliance with industry standards, and more importantly, the protection of the general public's health and wellbeing" Senator Muna Barnes said.

Senator Muna Barnes continued "I am looking forward to working with Senator Rodriguez's committee, my colleagues, the Department of Public Health and Social Services, and all the stakeholders in the barbering and cosmetology industry in seeing this bill make it through the legislative process and eventually being signed into law".
