Guam - The trial of former Public Works chief engineer Liberty Perez, Josephine Torres and Ariel Evarola will be held in October. The three are accused of falsifying records in order to obtain more than $5,000 in overtime compensation for work the feds contend they never actually performed on federally-funded projects.  A fourth co-defendant, Danilo Galiza, pleaded guilty to the charges.

Today defense attorneys requested a delay in the trial as Torres is currently ill and she must undergo a medical evaluation to determine if she is mentally and physically able to proceed with preparing for the trial.

The court set jury selection and trial for October 8, noting that despite an assertion of speedy trial, the ends of justice are met with a delay in the trial.
