Guam - It was last month local and federal firefighters spent close to six hours securing a blaze at Global Recycling, the second fire at the Dededo site within a six-month period. And although GFD left the cause of both fires undetermined, Guam Environmental Protection Agency's inspection resulted in the issuance of two notices of violation.

GEPA's environmental specialist and acting PIO Glenn San Nicolas says an NOV was issued April 1 for solid waste violations and another on April 4 for underground storage tank violations. As of Tuesday, the agency received a notice of intent to appeal for the underground storage violation.

San Nicolas emphasizes the violations were not the cause of the fire, but a result of the inspection.

The Guam EPA board is set for a regular meeting next Thursday where they may schedule the appeal hearing.

The meeting starts at 4pm in the Guam EPA Conference Room in Tiyan.
