Guam - New legislation proposed by Senator Ben Pangelinan could give a seat on the Guam Education Board back to a village mayor. Mayors Council of Guam executive director Angel Sablan says he appreciates Bill 78 as it amends a previous law removing the MCOG from the GEB.
Sablan says the last mayor to serve on the GEB was Chalan Pago Ordot mayor Jesse Gogue two years ago. He said, "It's very important that the mayors who are the local leaders are in touch with the schools and the principals and the students, as well that they be on that board to represent the feelings of their constituents. The mayors are always there at the schools helping in one way or another if it's not cleaning the schools its finding out what's wrong with the students the bullying and things like that."
The bill states the MGOC appointed mayor be a non-voting member of the GEB and serve a term of two years.
