Guam - The Port Authority of Guam board and management have agreed to conduct further research on matters related to obtaining workers compensation insurance. On Monday Port board of directors chair Dan Tydingco and port oversight chair Senator Tom Ada met to discuss various issues related to the autonomous agency.

Last week the board made a motion to draft a resolution asking lawmakers to change the wording in the law that would give the port the option to obtain workers compensation insurance instead of requiring it. Senator Ada requested that the Port get further clarification from other autonomous agencies about how they were able to obtain the insurance for much cheaper rates.

The Port was given a quote that it would cost more than $25,000 a month in premiums.  Tydingco says the agency has also agreed to go back to the insurance company and review how they came to the substantial figures before going back to lawmakers.
