Guam - Acting Governor Ray Tenorio proclaimed April as Guam Autism Awareness Month. Autism Community Together president Evelyn Claros helped read the proclamation and says autism is something we still are trying to understand. She notes the diagnosis ranges through autism spectrum disorders from very mild to severe, which makes awareness and education so important in order to address the needs and desires of individuals with ASD.

"But education is a big component in our children's lives and because of that we want to bring as much people to know their uniqueness, know their strengths and also of course their weaknesses, we still need to work on that, and then to be accepted into the community," she said.

Today's proclamation meanwhile coincides with World Autism Awareness Day. The Autism Community Together organization will be holding its annual Autism Awareness Fair on April 13 at the Agana Shopping Center from 10am to 2pm.
