Guam - The Guam Legal Services Corporation is still trying to get a handle on the significant impacts of sequestration. GLSC executive director Hank Parker says sequestration reduced the legal services corporation grant by 26%. the more than 100 thousand dollar cut will likely result in a reduction of work hours, pay or even furloughs.

Parker says what makes this worse is federal funding for protective orders also runs out in August and additional grant funding, if approved, may not be available until January of next year.

Parker said, "There will be several months without federal funding and we will have to deal with it with our other grants as much as we can. Even if it does get authorized, we don't know if it will be at the same level. And this is in a time when we're facing more and more cases."

As a result of the funding situation, the legal services board is scheduled to meet at noon on Tuesday to determine what actions may need to be taken as a result of the federal cuts.
