Another shipment carrying spiders has arrived on Guam, raising renewed biosecurity concerns.

Christopher rosario, biosecurity chief and state entomologist, confirms the latest discovery. Alongside Dr. Daniel Johnson, the spiders have been identified as likely false widow spiders—possibly the noble false widow.

These spiders belong to the same family as black widows and brown widows and are capable of biting. While considered less dangerous, officials say they are still venomous and pose a risk.

The find comes just weeks after brown widows, first suspected to be black widows, were discovered at an inspection warehouse at the Port of Guam.

Officials continue monitoring the situation as concerns grow over invasive species entering the island.
