Charter school's new target opening date: 8/19

Guam - After two years at a standstill the Guahan Academy Charter School may finally garner momentum. GACS spokesperson Therese Arroyo Matanane tells KUAM News the target opening date for the charter school is now set for August 19.

The release of the date follows Wednesday's meeting with education officials and members from Adelup who clarified their commitment and assurance at startup funding for the school.

Leaders are looking to amend the charter school law to take funds from the Department of Education's 15% reserve rather than its operating budget.

Matanane adds that the hundreds of thousands in consolidated grants and federal funds that were in jeopardy come March 31 may be secured once the startup funding is certified and the school can open bids and select a school site.
