Respicio, Ada propose offsets for reparation funding
Guam - Following their meetings with congressional staff last week during a trip to Washington, DC, Majority Leader Rory Respicio and Minority Leader Tony Ada have written to Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo regarding proposals and revisions relative to HR-44 in securing war reparations. The resolution had raised concern over Bordallo's proposal to use Section 30 funds to pay for war reparations.
Both senators offer a handful of proposals including securing funding for the federal match for the Medicaid program as well as other federal programs by use of unpaid federal obligations as an offset for this funding.
In response, Bordallo says she appreciates the senator's commitment to ensuring the resolution presents our community's "One Guam" stance. She says the recommendations are already being considered as part of the omnibus territorial package in which her office has been coordinating with the other territories and the Senate and House Committees of Jurisdiction.
