Bill 6 in third reading file
Guam - Bill six or the Predator Prevention Act hit session floor today. The measure was introduced by freshman republican Senator Brant McCreadie and Democrat Senator Dennis Rodriguez Jr. the legislation gets tough on crimes involving criminal sexual conduct. It would ensure that convicted sex offenders serve 100 percent of their sentence and should they commit the same crime again they would serve a mandatory 25 years to life. Senator McCreadie says more needs to be done to protect our community, saying, "More needs to be done to keep violent offenders off the streets."
"According to the Guam Police Department Unified Crime Report an average of nearly 90 rapes are reported to GPD each and according to FBI statistics Guam reports five times as many rape cases than New York City and we report 3 times more rape cases than Washington, DC."
The legislation gained additional sponsorship from Senators Tony Ada, Mike Limtiaco, Tommy Morrison, Chris Duenas, Rory Respicio, Frank Aguon Jr., and Mike San Nicolas.
San Nicolas said, "I believe that a minimum of 25 years to life without parole for sexual predators is entirely aligned with the standard the community wants to set and I just want to conclude that let those who dare to steal the innocence of our children and scar them for life spend the better part of the life behind bars thinking about it."
The bill was sent to the third reading file.
