Letter carriers rally to save Saturday deliveries

Guam - The National Association of Letter Carriers is hoping they can rally support from the community to keep six-day postal service. The postmaster general announced that beginning August 5, carriers would stop Saturday deliveries in an effort to save billions of dollars a year.
NALC Guam Chapter president Andrew Bautista says the decision would impacts carriers on Guam and across the nation. He told KUAM News, "Our national president is saying basically that the postmaster general cannot do that without congressional approval and therefore that's why we're rallying because it affects jobs here locally and it affects jobs throughout the United States. In the long run if it becomes a five-day delivery it might become a four day delivery then it could become three days and might put the post office out of service."
Bautista says three to four carriers jobs on Guam with another 30,000 to 60,000 carrier jobs across the nation would be impacted by the stopping of Saturday deliveries. The Association is asking that individuals contact their congressional leaders to stop the proposed cut.
