Big step in relocation Marines from Okinawa
Guam - According to the Pentagon it marks a significant step toward realizing the vision of the 2006 Realignment Roadmap. Pentagon press secretary George Little announcing that Japan's government has moved forward with the submission of a landfill request permit to the Okinawa prefectural government in the relocation of Marines Corps Air Station Futenma. Reacting to the news, Guam Delegate Madeleine Bordallo says this is a significant step forward in the progress towards developing a Futenma Replacement Facility. She added "While the realignment of Marines from Okinawa to Guam has been officially de-linked, today's action builds off the recent progress in realigning our military forces in the Asia-Pacific Region. It is another positive step in strengthening our bi-lateral relationship with the government of Japan. I look forward to continue to ensure that the realignment continues to move forward. "
