Guam - Two executive appointments were also added to the session agenda. They are Mariles Benavente who was appointed to the Advisory Council on Mental Health and Substance Abuse and Rey Vega to serve as the director of DMHSA. The confirmation hearings were held this morning before the committee on health.

"My goal in moving forward with Mental Health is to seek accreditation with Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services a lot of people have said I am too ambitious but I have worked with Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services and Joint Commission consultants, it's doable," said Vega.

Vega has over 20 years of government service and most recently served as administrator of the Guam Memorial Hospital. Committee chair on health Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. assured his colleagues that he would have their confirmation reports submitted next week so that it will be ready for a vote.
