Asst. commandant meets with governor
Guam - While some disappointing news came out of our nation's capital yesterday regarding civilian infrastructure funding for Guam, Governor Eddie Calvo received more encouraging news that same day as he received a courtesy visit by assistant commandant of the Marine Corps General John Paxton, Jr. who all but says the people of Guam can sleep easy because the Marines are still coming.
"I'm here to reassure that we're still committed and I know there's always concern by how many and how fast, but I just want you know that we never dropped our commitment and we'll just work through it," said the general. "Of course right now we have some hiccups and concerns regarding sequestration and the continuing resolution but we still have a good master plan."
Buildup Office director Mark Calvo confirms officer in charge of Marine Corps activity on Guam Colonel Scott Loch and Joint Regional Marianas Command Rear Admiral Tilghman Payne were also in attendance. The visit was part of Paxton's tour of the Marine forces in the Pacific, including Guam.
