NWS issues warning about Sea and Surf Conditions

The National Weather Service warns island residents that if they plan to head to the beach over the next couple days to be extra cautious.

Guam - PRESS RELEASE 

The National Weather Service warns island residents that if they plan to head to the beach over the next couple days to be extra cautious. A high surf advisory along with a small craft advisory are in effect until Thursday at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

 

The high surf advisory is in effect for north and east facing reefs. According to the NWS surf along north facing reefs will rise tonight and reach hazardous levels of 7 to 9 feet before dawn. Surf along east facing reefs will rise tonight and reach hazardous levels of 10 to 12 feet Wednesday morning. The NWS forecasts the surf to stay at these levels through Thursday morning. Island residents are urged to avoid venturing near these areas because rip currents are life threatening.

 

Meanwhile, inexperienced mariners are, especially those operating small vessels, are advised not to go boating in these conditions because they are hazardous.
