Guam - Police Lieutenant Mark Charfauros isn't just fighting his five-day suspension from the Guam Police Department, but he's also fighting to get his captain rank back. Charfauros filed appeals of the suspension and demotion with the Civil Service Commission and a status call for the parties has been set for March 12.

As we reported, the actions stem from Charfauros allegedly violating Department of Corrections security regulations back in November. Charfauros and three other officers went to the Hagatna Detention Facility and met with several police officers who are awaiting trial in the Blue House Lounge prostitution case.

It was alleged that Charfauros gave his cell phone to one of the detained officers.

The notices of final adverse action accused Charfauros of using his official position to benefit himself by allowing unauthorized access to the Hagatna Detention Facility. Charfauros remains detailed to DepCor and contends that he was never briefed on the agency's regulations and witnessed others, including the commander of the detention facility, authorizing and granting access to GPD personnel before.

Charfauros was also recently demoted from the rank of captain and was disciplined for speaking with KUAM News following his arrest for official misconduct.
