Guam - A special resolution presentation was held Tuesday at the Guam Legislature for Loida Nicolas Lewis, a visiting philanthropist, lawyer and businesswoman from the Phillipines. Lewis is on Guam as the guest speaker at the University of Guam's Presidential Lecture Series.

Lawmakers recognized and commended Lewis as a leader of the Filipino-American community and welcomed her to Guam as the national chairwoman of the U.S. Pinoys for Good Governance. She said she was impressed by the island during her short stay on Guam, noting, "But it was a very pleasant surprise to see (Guam) is very progressive, very active commercially and having met the people that they are hospitable, very friendly, very gracious and very effective."

Lewis practiced law in the Phillipines and New York and was the first Asian-American to pass the American Bar without having been educated in the United States. She previously served as chair and CEO of TLC Beatrice International, a $2 billion multinational food company.
