GEC in homestretch for counting ballots

Guam - The Guam Election Commission is on the home stretch of the handcount of precincts as part of the audit of the 2010 general election. GEC executive director Maria Pangelinan says staff started the handcount of the fifth and final precinct Wednesday.
The biggest difference in the handcount from Precinct 19b in Yigo was Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo receiving close to a dozen extra votes in the congressional race. "We found a additional 11 votes and we noted it in our reports that there were quite a few who wrote in Madeleine and voted for her, so in that respect the hand counters know and presume the intent of the voter," Pangelinan explained. "So we counted those versus the machine may have called it an overvote."
The gubernatorial race meanwhile saw minimal change with the handcount with the Carl Gutierrez-Frank Aguon, Jr. receiving 369 votes or one less than the certified results with Eddie Calvo-Ray Tenorio receiving 347 or two more than the certified results. Staff will spend the week counting the legislative race and hope to finish overall before Wednesday's board meeting.
