Guam - The Guam Fire Department is preparing to lose about ten employees who are part of the upcoming 600 Guam Guardsmen and women who will be deployed. According to GFD spokesperson Lt. Ed Artero the employees are firefighters and emergency dispatchers.

As we reported, even the fire chief is part of the deployment. "Well, it will not affect our ability to respond. What we will do is redistribute, rebalance our manpower and distribute them evenly it's just some days where instead of having four men there will be three men on the shift," he explained.

Lt. Artero adds that the nine personnel will be deployed for one year but he anticipates GFD's newest recruits should help fill the man power shortage come summer.  There are currently fifteen new recruits and GFD hopes to recruit an additional fifteen for a total of 30 after successfully completing the six-month program, the recruits will be promoted to Firefighter I and given their assignments.
