Guam - Six people who were injured during the tragedy in Tumon on Tuesday remain at the Guam Memorial Hospital. Nursing Supervisor Marie Mafnas confirms that a male individual who was struck by the car driven by Chad Ryan Desoto, 21, remains in critical condition in the Critical Care Unit while a female victim is listed in stable condition in the same ward.
An 8-month-old girl and a 3-year-old, both of whom were stabbed Tuesday night, are in stable condition in the Pediatric Ward. The baby's mother, 29-year-old Rie Sugiyama, died from multiple stab wounds she sustained during the attack. Sugiyama was carrying the baby in her arms and tending to 81-year-old Kazuko Uehara, who was lying on the ground from stab wounds, when Desoto came and attacked her.
Mafnas says two other victims are listed in stable conditions. Six others who were brought in the night of the tragedy were treated and released on Wednesday.
Desoto remains behind bars on $2 million cash bail on charges of murder, attempted aggravated murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault all with special allegations of possession and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony.
According to court documents, Desoto told police he intended to hurt as many people as he could initially with his car and then with a knife.
