Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo in his 2013 State of the Island Address reported more people are being assaulted, there's been more property vandalism, and burglaries. He added that sex offenses are also on the rise and the islands drug problem isn't getting any better. He noted that last year Customs confiscated $14 million in the drug Ice with 3,000 ounces of marijuana.
He said part of the solution is increasing the police force and to get tougher on crime through the penal system.
He recognized Senator Brant McCreadie and his efforts to crack down on sexual predators, saying, "And I'm very excited that he as well shares the same sentiments as I do when it comes to sexual predators and his message was strong as was mine when I introduced the bill." McCreadie introduced the Predator Prevention Act shortly after being sworn in.
The measure seeks to strengthen the penalties for crimes involving criminal sexual conduct.
