Guam - Since taking office, Governor Eddie Calvo reported that 18 routes, roads and bridges have started construction. Looking ahead he said his administration is pursuing GARVEE (grant anticipation revenue vehicle) bonds, which will allow for more routed road repairs including new roads such as Phase One of the Tiyan Parkway.

He added DPW will start the reconstruction of Hamburger Road and Ypao Road and will also get back to the practice of paving village streets.

Public Works director Carl Dominguez said, "I'm excited, I can hardly wait to get them started." He said work will likely get started, "Probably late this year, we got to get the GARVEE bond and hopefully we'll go for that in April already."

The bonds allow grant recipients, such as Guam, to draw down on future grants enabling the acceleration of highway projects. DPW is hoping to obtain a $40 million GARVEE bond.
