Guam - An anonymous tip led the U.S. Coast Guard to the discovery of an estimated 250,000 gallons of improperly stored oil products contained within storage tanks of a dry dock and two barges at the Guam Shipyard.  Coast Guard Sector Guam Public Affairs Officer Lieutenant Junior Grade Richard Russell says an assessment was immediately conducted and a unified command has been established between the Shipyard, USCG and Naval Base Guam for the safe removal of the stored petroleum products.

He stresses that there have been no reported discharges of pollution into the waterways around the Shipyard.  No violations have been issued to the Shipyard at this time.

An oil boom has been deployed around the floating barge and a roving watch will remain in place until the oil products are removed.
