66 species of coral may be listed as endangered species

NOAA scientists have identified threats to their survival, including rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification, and coral disease.

Guam - To get public input on the proposal to list 66 coral species under the Endangered Species Act, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will be holding public hearings on Guam and in the CNMI this week as 59 of these species are found in the Pacific and 7 in the Caribbean.

NOAA scientists have identified threats to their survival, including rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification, and coral disease. Guam residents have a chance to speak out on Monday, February 11 at the Guam Hilton Hotel with a town hall meeting from 5-6:30pm and an official public hearing set for 6:30-9:30pm.
