Guam - The overwhelming stray animal population may be a problem islandwide, but residents of Agat have had enough. Agat mayor Carol Tayama says her village's Municipal Planning Council is looking to offer a reward for Agat residents who capture strays in the area.

She told KUAM News, "The Council decided because of the problems that we're having with the stray animals in our village that maybe the MPC is going to offer $10 if they bring them in. The dogs have to be alive, they also have to identify where these dogs were taken so for sure we're not taking somebody else's dog. That's supposed to be tied up. They have to be stray animals."

Tayama says aside from trashing the village, stray dogs are a danger to her community as they chase school children who are walking to and from their bus stops. She adds that the reward program won't take off until it's properly advertised and Agat pet owners know to tie their dogs or risk having them picked up.
