Tom Ada working on fire, police citation issues
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - While police launch their e-ticket initiative, Senator Tom Ada continues to work with the Attorney General's Office and the Guam Judiciary to address the problems regarding the dismissal of citations issued from the Guam Police and Fire Departments. A number of traffic citations were recently thrown out because an assistant attorney general was not present due to a lack of manpower.
The court has also stopped accepting fire code violations issued by the fire department until the violations are first properly classified. "So really the fix in this situation is real simple. We're working then on a bill that will simply reclassify Traffic Code violations and Fire Code violations as civil offensives so then they can be taken care of in the traffic violations court," said the senator.
Senator Ada expects the measure to be introduced in the next week or so and hopes to have a public hearing in time for the February session.
