Guam - The fifth annual Gupot Fanha'aniyan Pulan Chamoru (Chamorro Lunar Festival) will be held this Sunday at the Guam Fishermans Co-op grounds next to Chamorro Village in Hagatna. Coordinator John Calvo told KUAM News, "Going to have all the various cultural artists the jewelers the weavers the carvers all of those people there but you are also going to have the farmers and those who are specialty cooks."
Calvo invites the public to attend the festival and enjoy the cultural entertainment, demonstrations and feast. The festival celebrates the Lunar New Year and the release of the 2013 Lunar Calendar. The calendar was produced by the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council and its Chamorro Lunar Calendar Committee.
"We wanted to include the students in it, so every year we do a K-12 art contest to feature the art and we have a theme which pertains to the environment," Calvo added.
This year's theme is "Addressing Sustainability through Chamorro Cultural and Food Security".
The Chamorro Lunar Calendar Festival will be held on Sunday, February 10 from 10am-7pm and free calendars will be distributed while supplies last.
