Guam - Navy officer Jonathan Jake Tenorio was laid to rest this afternoon at Veterans Cemetery in Piti. The graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy was assigned to the U.S.S. Bunker Hill in San Diego, California.

Family and friends from near and far gathered at the Santa Teresita Church in Mangilao to celebrate his life and pay their last respects. Dee Cruz is a close family friend, and said, "Jake is an amazing person and for his friends to fly from Annapolis that he graduated with and they are in there in the front row just to see them make that long trip to Guam never been here before never just heard stories for them to actually come here to pay their respects. It's an honor to see them in their uniform."

Tenorio's Naval Academy classmates, close friends and boxing teammates were honored to be able to accompany Jonathan's remains and his wife Christine home.  In memory of Jonathan's passion for boxing and how many lives he has touched, his boxing teammate Micheal Steadman presented boxing gloves signed by the team.

Jake was a three-time brigade boxing champion as a midshipman. Honoring his memory, a heartfelt eulogy was offered by Jake's former classmate and fellow naval officer Chris Williams, who said, "The only thing that I can think is how thankful I am that you reared such a great man, that I had just a moment to know that man, to know the kind of greatness that exists in this world the kind of greatness that we all should strive to be."

Williams was thankful for the opportunity to share his story of Jonathan's greatness, saying, "I hope that somehow I conveyed to you just how much his brothers in arms and the people he spent the last four years with knew how amazing your son was your husband was."

Although his life was ended abruptly it was evident by the multitude of friends, family, and fellow naval officers that Jonathan lived an amazing life in which he made an impact, touching the lives of everyone he came in contact with.

Jake was found dead in his apartment in San Diego. His brother Zachary has been accused of his murder. He pleaded not guilty this past week.
