Guam - At least a handful of villages will soon see the start of repairs to their sports and recreational facilities as part of a federal grant worth a half-million dollars. The grant was awarded through the Department of the Interior divided evenly between all 19 villages.

Mayors Council of Guam executive director Angel Sablan says in the next few weeks the villages of Agana Heights, Talofofo, Piti, Dededo and Santa Rita will begin renovations. "And what it is we will be working with BBMR and DOA, because this is a grant so the work will be done first before we receive any money and so when the work is done we invoice through the contractor through BBMR who would then go to DOA to make the draw down from the federal grant," he said.

He adds while all the projects for each village have already been determined, several village mayors are still working on contacting vendors and making proposals to contractors to do the work. Some of the repairs include repairing the baseball field lights in Talofofo to resurfacing the basketball court and electrical repairs in Santa Rita. Several of the facilities date back to the 1970's and 80's.
