Guam - To get the island's elementary students to eat healthy, Sodexo Services introduced a special healthy eating ambassador. Moms and dads, the company is doing their part to get your kids eating their fruits and veggies.

"Today we're introducing the students at Tamuning Elementary to Liftoff, Sodexo's wellness ambassador. He encourages the kids to eat healthy and also encourages them to be have an active lifestyle so they develop good eating habits and exercise at a young age," announced Sodexo Resident District Manager Mike Supple. He said the wellness ambassador "Liftoff" took off this morning at Tamuning Elementary and will travel to southern and northern elementary schools next week.

Moms and dads can get involved too by logging onto http://www.liftoffsplayground.com, an interactive site with health advice, games, and printable coloring books. But it's not just elementary schools the food services provider is hoping to appeal to. Supple says secondary schools may soon see salad bars and a computerized point of sale system.

He said, "Middle school and high school what we're hoping to do in the very near future is do a computerized point of sale system and it'll be something where all the students are loaded into a computer system, and they can come through the meal service line without picking up tickets which they currently do and line up and get a faster speed of service as they go through the cafeteria line. Because with the large enrollments at middle schools and high schools going through the cafeteria takes such a long time."

Sodexo currently caters to 34 cafeterias across the island preparing 6,000 breakfasts and 13,000 lunches daily.
